So the mask Marie owns:


It originally belonged to him when he was alive and healthy. His death was cause by a mob, calling him a witch of some sort.
they were partially right xD
He did use different enchantments and spells, but never on the towns people. Strange things started occuring and blamed it on him. He was then burned alive in the center of the town, showing nothing but a smirk. The way he met with marie years later is because he casted a spell on his own spirit(and the mask) to keep its form.
